Gisby Residence
An approximately 0.6 acre site with a modern style renovated dwelling located in a residential neighborhood in West Vancouver. The site slopes steeply on the south side to a cul-de-sac and the view opens up onto the Burrard inlet.
Problem Statement:
To create integrated usable outdoor spaces adjacent to the house which relate to the site while reconnecting the site to the southern cul-de-sac.
Design Solution:
We worked with the client to create spaces with different characters in the landscape with connections to the indoor spaces. A small bamboo garden with water features on the north side of the house was designed to be more intimate and meditative in character. A more active outdoor space was designed on the south side of the house which includes the outdoor seating area on the patio, a vegetable garden, builtin BBQ, outdoor pool and seating area by the fire pit which is connected to the pool deck. An entry from the cu-de-sac to the site was designed with series of stairs up the south yard.
