A new dwelling constructed on a steeply sloping site in a residential neighbourhood.

Problem Statement:

The site sloped steeply from the rear yard to the front entry. The result was a limited area of useable landscape space next to the dwelling.


Design Solution:

A series of retaining walls were built in the rear yard to create spaces while accommodating the steep slope. This established an outdoor room adjacent to the upper level of the dwelling. The detailing of the landscape is contemporary and utilizes materials used in the construction of the home.
