Glen Oaks Residence

Our most successful homes are those that make a connection between the indoors and outdoors so that they feel grounded to the beauty that surrounds them, and the Glen Oaks Residence is no exception. Nestled amongst 200 year old oaks, sycamores and boulders on a secluded creek-side lot, our biggest challenge was to create a home that sensitively coexists with its natural environment. This modern version of the classic California cottage incorporates floodplain protection measures that directly attributed to its survival when numerous other homes in the neighborhood were destroyed in the Montecito debris flow disaster. The property has generous flexible outdoor spaces to discover and use as their family grows. Sandstone boulders excavated during construction are used on the home’s interior and exterior, further connecting it to the land. The gray-bottom pool reflects the surrounding tree canopies, creating a tranquil and meditative retreat for family and friends.
