Gothic Revived
The homeowners enjoyed the grandeur and urban location of this Gothic Revival for nearly a decade before deciding to take on the challenge of bringing light, view, and improved function to a kitchen that 19th Century formality left isolated from the rest of the house. Most dramatic was the removal of a butlery that created fluid circulation through the entire main level, and new window and door “portals” that highlight the thickness of solid brick walls and provide outdoor access via an elevated breakfast area. The team achieved this with a modern aesthetic, while adhering to Preservation guidelines requiring punched openings and traditional materials
