Grace Residence

An original mid-century modern with an '80's interior received a to-the-studs remodel, bringing the design solidly into the twenty-first century while respecting its 1960's roots. The central array of rooms - living, dining, kitchen - was opened up, creating an open, airy space appearing much larger than its actual size. All new fixtures, finishes and equipment are thoroughly of the moment and hew to a menu of neutrals with pops of black. The restrained use of white oak floors and custom millwork, white painted finishes, and Carrara marble allow the groovy 1960's architecture be the headliner.

Streetside, a low plaster wall was put in place for a layer of privacy. but also visually accentuates the mid-century horizontality of the original house. In the rear, a concrete tile-paved deck, stairs connect the residence to the compact yard and future pool area. Exterior colors and materials are kept light and neutral, save a mahogany-sheathed entry recess, making for one note of richness in an overall quiet composition.
