Great Falls Project: BROMBAL USA

The EBE and OS2 Thermal break profiles proved to be an excellent addition to this beautiful riverside Estate located in Great Falls, Virginia. Working with a directive of no additions, the architect; from Wnuk Spurlock Architecture, and interior designer; Mary M. Galloway, approached the design as a transformation of the existing structure to be more engaging and responsive to the site and the clients’ needs. Additionally the program required providing shelter at the front entrance, rebuilding the existing pressure-treated deck, and renovating the kitchen.
Inspired by the naturally wooded setting of the home and client’s deep interest in amateur Porsche racing, the architects fulfilled the client’s desires by abstracting the elements of the existing structure to craft a tasteful combination of Man-made and nature.
To take full advantage of their view overlooking the Potomac River, the naturally inspired couple chose to eliminate the solid end walls and insert floor-to-ceiling glass doors and panels to open the primary living space and engage the outdoors. Ideal for the clients’ transformation, 304 stainless steel frames by Brombal USA provided excellent corrosion resistance, extreme durability and superior structural stability for this waterfront property. In addition, Brombal’s OS2 Thermally Broken Frames gave the estate very fine, 30 mm visible sightlines in combination with superior U-values as low as 0.25.
As a result, the once dreary 1980’s façade was transformed into a fully functional, high efficiency home that exceeded the clients’ hopes and expectations.
