In keeping with the overall theme of the renovation and the design team's vision of a sleek, clean, contemporary space, we emphasized vertical and horizontal geometry. The original home had a back door leading directly into the family room which was not ideal; therefore, with the home located in a family oriented neighbourhood, a large mudroom was created to handle the comings and goings of a busy family. We chose to combine walnut in a basket weave pattern to accentuate the grain and strengthen the detail of the design which creates an interesting and unique effect. Both the mudroom and the family room, which is equipped with a custom built-in desk, are extremely functional while aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
