This private residence off a beautiful, secluded road in The Hamptons features a modern façade clad in reSAWN’s HAI shou sugi ban charred wood specified by BAHND design studio.

BAHND DESIGN STUDIO is an architecture and design practice founded by Amanda Beethe to develop thoughtful, modern, sustainable architecture and design. They work with absolute dedication to the context of each project, ensuring that every space speaks to its owner in their own language. Their concepts draw inspiration from the place of each project: the history, nature and culture, and incorporate that into its future form.

Based in New York City, BAHND brings signature passion, curiosity and vitality to each of their projects, which have included restaurants, hotels, exhibitions, and residential design.

reSAWN’s award-winning CHARRED collection pays homage to the traditional Japanese technique of “shou-sugi-ban” aka “yakisugi” without being literal. Historically very specific in their definition, “shou-sugi-ban” and “yakisugi” have become common nomenclature for modern charred wood designs in general. All of our CHARRED products are MADE in the USA, right at our facility in Telford, PA. We use domestic wood species whenever possible, including Cypress from the Southern US and domestic White Oak, Black Walnut, Red Oak & Ash as well as reclaimed woods from the US. Our designs have been carefully developed using modern finishes and incorporating our many years of experience in the architectural & design specification market. We pride ourselves on manufacturing charred wood products for a range of applications including exterior siding,
interior wall cladding & flooring, and custom furniture.
