Hartsdale Classic

A turn of the Century house with preserved details and millwork needed a kitchen update. Rather than a gut-demo with all new kitchen cabinets, Kaja Gam designed and KG Home Construction performed the delicate surgery to incorporate the existing glass cabinets and bases into the updated space plan.

Because of the many door openings (3) we didn't want give up on any space, so we tucked a narrow and section of cabinets in behind the refrigerator.

The 12" deep pantry also houses the microwave. A deep opening was made going through the wall and into the build-in china cabinet on the back with a false panel.

by creating a piano shop on the island we made room for 2 seats at the back of the sink

The pantry wall butts a glass cabinet in the dining room. by pushing the microwave shelf into the cabinet and create a false back wall we were able to make the pantry usable space less than 9" deep. This accommodated a 2-seat island that otherwise would have been impossible
