The landscape plan for this new build followed the Net Zero Energy ethos - we worked to expose the soul of the place within a paradigm of low-maintenance, native, full-season-spanning planting and seeding. We worked closely with Paul Lukez conceptually and with builder Robert Young on site. Any exposed ledge from blasting now emerges from clover-filled erosion-control seed mix. The original stone wall - preserved during construction - remains as a spine across the top of the site, and defines the moment of entry into the house/garage grouping. All square footage of the site was 'touched' during construction, every tree examined and worked with, to create a super easy-to care for landscape that also supports wildlife. Views into the woods beyond were critical to the cutting plan, as was leaving as many trees as possible while creating enough sun-space for the solar panels to operate.
