Hawthorne Hills Fire Pit
Not all projects we take on are large, nor are they capital ‘A’ Architecture. Every now and then we enjoy the smaller scale design challenges. This beautiful property sits atop a hillside overlooking Lake Washington where the skyscrapers of Bellevue peak out in the distance. We were tasked by the owners to complete both an interior and an exterior project to transform their lower-level into a true-entertaining space.
The exterior portion of the project began with a pleasant semi-covered sitting and barbeque space entrenched in nature. They also desired a firepit to which they could sit around in the evenings under the stars and perhaps drink a little wine. For the barbeque area we provided an 8-foot cantilevering Douglas-Fir trellis that looks to be reaching out from the surrounding trees. Surface mounted heaters were incorporated so that the Owners could still be comfortable in the cooler months. The firepit and barbeque were both wrapped in stone with a quartzite countertop and ledge.
