A new front yard garden for a sport court addition to a contemporary home. The challenge here was getting to the front door and the steep in accessible slope. We built a sequence of steps and landings from the driveway that engaged the slope and curved gracefully to the front door. The clients wanted a low maintenance garden with no lawn to mow. Something they could enjoy year-round with little care and visually dynamic. Because of the existing ledge soil depth was a problem. To solve this we planted waves of low maintenance perennials and ornamental grasses to provide interest through each season. Where we could evergreen shrubs and a flowering tree were added for scale and structure.
