A gorgeous and rare open lot in Napa Valley surrounded by vineyards and views of the Stags Leap range inspired a destination retreat home, recalling the modest agricultural origins of the valley itself. An exploration with simple structures was choice in allowing the natural environment and landscape design to have a greater presence. The casual placement and change in materials of the detached two-story barn is used to help create a sense of arrival while recalling the typical farmyard “accretion” of structures over time. The house was designed in collaboration with Summit Professional Builders and Rhyne Designs Landscape.
