This photo series shows installation of a geothermal heating and cooling system to our house as the first step in adding a 1000 sf addition to our existing 1,700 sf house in 2009. The system cost, after Federal tax refund, was equal to the cost of a high efficiency heat pump. The energy savings are going from a $350 peak electrical cost in winter or summer months to a $150 peak cost per month. So while we increased the size of our house by 65%, we decreased the energy cost by 50%.
