Hudson NY

This free standing building in the center of Hudson's main street was previously a collection of small rough-shod apartments on the second and third floor with a large cold and damp street level store. Everything was gutted. Major structural repairs were made to the building, including a new roof with solar panels that feed the whole building with electricity, and a three-zone forced-air/AC system (exposed ducting). The third floor living space is an open loft with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Surfaces are essentially local, green, and ecologically friendly, including the custom made bamboo kitchen cabinets. Rather than fully expose the kitchen a stainless steel recess was designed to house the cabinets and appliances. The original roof structure was left exposed giving a very industrial look. The second floor is completely open except for a bathroom and kitchenette. The floor surface is clad in dog-friendly rubber matting. This space and 1/4 of the ground floor store area is used by the owner (Dogs of Hudson) to train canines. The ground floor houses the Dogs of Hudson store with the remaining 3,000 sqft belonging to the Hudson headquarters of Sorted, a graphic design/business identity company belonging to the second owner. It makes for an excellent home office.
The brick wall on the South (back) of the building was removed and a two story glass wall installed in its place, with a steel and wood patio leading down to the lower roof where an extensive garden is being planned.
