Hyde Park Cottage

The home was remodeled extensively in the 1970s, with great disregard for period features; the functional spaces demanded extensive refurbishing, and - for the living spaces - cosmetic updates (removing textured ceilings, providing architectural detail, and installing furnishings).

An unused cabinet was replaced with a seat (drawer below for shoes) and wine storage - a mini-mud room for the home's daily-use entrance. A soothing color-palette ties into the rest of the home, while an almost-black finish helps the appliances to disappear.

A tiny bathroom was gutted and expanded by 2-feet into an adjacent room, providing just enough space to create an open, elegant space with additional storage. A column conceals a pipe that was costly to move, and the storage provides a "modesty panel" for the adjacent toilet. Tile by Dal.
