Our client is a well regarded architect who- when it came to envisioning his backyard- he was completely stumped. In his own words, "I was too close to it and couldn't find the right perspective of what to do back there. For years it eluded me." So, he called us. The spark of inspiration can often be found by asking the right questions and then really listening to what is said (and not said).

With that being said, the design for this backyard in Berkeley was inspired by the gardens of Kyoto- a spiritually meaningful place for our client. The result is allegorical, lyrical, functional and beloved by him and his family.
