JWC worked in direct partnership with one of its developer associates to bring this nearly 5000 sf new construction modern to life atop Mt Soledad in La Jolla. This stunning custom home features 5 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, 11’ ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glass, open-plan main floor, 3-car garage, wine room and an 850 SF mostly-covered entertainment deck adjacent the living space.

Lush landscaping accents tiered concrete and the sound of water falling into two pools creates privacy from the street. A five-foot pivot door opens to the parlor and draws attention to 180-degree canyon views from the living space and deck. Fifteen skylights and a handful of clerestory windows add to bountiful natural light while deep overhangs provide privacy and shading from the sun.

Jon Walsh and Stone Lion Properties performed all design work and material selections with a conscious effort to create balance between natural materials and simple, modern lines. This is reflected in the board-formed concrete, exposed wood eaves, slate tile, corten steel, and natural accent walls and is given shape by a series of rectangular masses that define the various living spaces and mask the contour of this sloped canyon lot.
