Lake Balboa

This was a typical post-war Valley home which was purchased in 2006 and remodeled. The footprint was doubled, adding a master suite, family room/kitchen and two extra en-suite bathrooms for the guest bedrooms. This took the home from 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom to 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
Efforts were made to keep the front of the house in keeping with the neighborhood, though the interior and backyard spaces would be significantly upgraded. At the time of the remodel the focus was on a style in line with Cottage, or perhaps Beach Cottage. But ultimately the home ended up more towards the eclectic side – a mixture of approaches. In the family room and kitchen, the bones are pure Cottage, but include an industrial touch with reclaimed factory lights over the island and a 60 inch television with speakers hanging from cables on tracks. The backyard also has its basis in the Cottage style; however the tightly cropped boxwoods give hint to a French castle garden.
The dining room invokes the richness of an old French hotel, with Red walls and simulated paneling. The living room and master bedroom were designed with the soft warmth of a present day Paris Boutique Hotel in mind.
The net effect is a space which is incredibly comfortable and homey. A place you come to as an oasis from the bustle of LA that surrounds the home.
