Palm Project

This was a remodel of a small brick home originally built in the 1940's. The new 2-story home was built 'inside' the brick walls of the original structure. The architectural style is Modern Farmhouse and was inspired by one of our visits to Austin, TX. The original 2-story garage and guest house at the back of the property was retained.

Project Cost: $1,500,001 - $2,000,000

This is the completed home with our De Bilt shop truck parked out front.

This is the garage and guest house at the rear of the property. The paint color is "Black Fox" from Sherwin-Williams. Note the industrial funnel lamp next to the garage door.

Here we see the kitchen with a large island in the center. There is also a walk-in pantry out of sight to the right. This kitchen has a ton of storage space. Note the reclaimed wood on the ceiling. Here we see a sliding barn door leading into the master suite. This door was custom built by De Bilt from steel and reclaimed wood from the original house.

The stairway of this home also acts as a thermal chimney. The Velux skylight seen above can be opened. The height of the space then creates a thermal gradient which causes air to rise, pushing its way out of the skylight as cool air is drawn in from the first floor. Palm Project

This is the downstairs powder room. The hanging light fixture was fabricated by De Bilt from an old planter. The turn-buckles used to level it were found in the garage. The sink is mounted on a shelf formed by two boards reclaimed from an old barn.

This shows a lighting fixture in one of the bedrooms. One can also see the square window tucked up tight to the peak of the roof. This is a classic feature of the Modern Farmhouse style of architecture.
