Lean On Me House
The clients of Lean On Me House came to us with a vision of their new home that closely relates to the natural Texas hillside around it. The site proved challenging with extremely steep topography, rising over 50 feet from front to back. The tiered, terrace design steps down the hillside, maintaining a close relationship with the natural grade. The upper volume of the house sits atop a hill overlooking the Barton Creek Habitat Preserve, and is equipped with solar and rainwater harvesting systems to take advantage of its peak location. Deep overhangs and limestone walls link the base volume of the house back to its Texas roots. Every level of the home includes interior to exterior permeability and outdoor living space. Vertical cedar siding and a custom wood screen provide warmth and privacy, while large expanses of glass frame stunning views of the neighboring preserve. The resulting home is a beautiful and inviting work of architecture informed by and grounded in the land on which it rests.
