Levin Professional Farmhouse Kitchen

Complete Kitchen Renovation - Transforming a derelict kitchen into a functioning professional kitchen for a Chef/Restauranteur and his wife/ baker. The kitchen needed professional appliances and to function at a higher level than your average residential kitchen. They desired a farmhouse look, feel and charm - reflecting their taste and lifestyle. The new design shall promote a more open feel to the house. The project also included the dining room and laundry. Located at the beach, we incorporated accents to celebrate a sense of location. Hence the name of the project "Levin Professional Farmhouse Kitchen".

With all our services in we have close up our walls and ceilings. To minimize construction dust to the rest of the residence, we will open up the new window only after we have plastered and sanded the new walls in the construction zone.

We have now opened the window connecting the kitchen to the living room. The new windows are now installed, electrical wiring, plumbing and walls have been prepared for the installation of the new kitchen, dining and laundry space.

Cabinet Installation. With our clients we opted for white solid wood cabinets, accented with navy blue cabinets in key area. To maximize storage we opted for drawers and pull outs. A lazy-suzan is located in the corner cabinet to make sure there is no wasted space.

The selected white quartz countertop has arrived and is being installed. We ordered the counter top in complete pieces, so there would be no seams. We choose a quartz with large flecks of blues and greens to add texture and color to our white cabinets.

The completed kitchen - view from the dining room. We designed the fully dimmable, driftwood led skylight lighting fixture. We added pendants above the farm sink and breakfast bar. Motion controlled under cabinet task lighting allows no touch light operation with even messy hands.

The breakfast counter was made table height rather than bar height, to maintain a more open feel between the kitchen and dining area. Most importantly though. to be kid friendly. Its location also provides optimum view to the kitchen, while keeping guest clear of the cooking zone.

Note the drawer pull above the breakfast counter. We incorporated a cutlery storage for easy service to the dining room and breakfast bar. Below the drawer is a door and two pull out trays to storeinfrequently used items. No space is wasted!

A professional kitchen requires professional equipment. The high end range features six burners, a grill, and two ovens. The stainless steel backsplash houses a pot filler, spice holding area and pull down warming trays. The hood has multiple exhaust settings, task lighting and heat lamps.

The movable island is crafted for function and an arms reach prep area, equipped with utensil drawer, trash tray, drip pan and two wire shelves for additional storage.

We added coastal accents to celebrate the house's beach location. The Octopus fruit bowl is a prime example. Large brass hardware on the white cabinets are made to standout as a feature, not just function.

We did upgrade on the subway tiles. We opted for procelain over ceramic; beveled edgers over flat; cracked over smooth and gloss of flat. The result is clean and stunning!

In keeping with our "Professional Farmhouse" theme, we employed quite a bit of reclaimed wood open storage shelves to break and tie together elements of the kitchen. The crockery selection compliments and accents the blue cabinets with a touch of coastal flair.

1"x 8" reclaimed wood was used to frame the new window opening we created to the living room. We tiled the wall with 12" x 48" stained concrete looking porcelain tiles, adding to the warm, yet modern farmhouse feel to the kitchen.

We added a fresh coat of personality paint to the dining room. Since we made the kitchen larger than its original, we went with a window seat with integrated storage to allow us to use a smaller area for the dining room.

A deep farmhouse sink and high goose neck faucet are a prefect combination for comfort and ease of use. We added depth to the room with the use of a wall mirror made of reclaimed wood and braided ropes. A great way to marry farmhouse with a hint of coastal style.

We paired our client's existing Windsor chairs with two benches, to bring a warm, casual, elegant and open feel to the dining room. The table becomes the focal point with an unobstructed view to the outside. The window seat provides additional storage.

The window seat is designed and finished to match the kitchen cabinets, uniting the dining and kitchen. The height adjustable farm equipment/farmhouse reclaimed wood table with matching bench, flanked by distressed Windsor chairs is definitely "Professional farmhouse"!

We did the lighting in the dining room. We added two directional recessed cans to accent wall art and add the interesting shadows you see here. Further, we added candle holders for mood setting. My client, being a professional chef, is big on entertaining.
