Loney Cottage
This 1500 SF cottage is located on the west shore of Lake Seymore in a region of Vermont known as the "Northeast Kingdom". It serves as the weekend retreat for a Quebec family. Although the cottage is visually sympathetic to the “summer camp” vernacular of the region, it redefines it in a way that promotes a more sensitive relationship with the natural environment and a more modern expression of domestic life. Our intention was to create a building that feels at home in the north woods yet is liberated from the constraints of the local order. Architectural features include a stone entry courtyard with fire pit, loose-laid stone landscape walls, a screened porch, an abundance of glass, and a close integration with the natural features of the site.
