Mazama Cabin

The Mazama Cabin is located in the eastern foothills of the Cascade Mountains, in the rugged and remote Methow Valley. A remodel of an existing structure, this design re-imagines the gable roof. A new garage, with guest loft above, is set in the forest east of the existing cabin. The resulting courtyard, housing a fire-pit in the center, serves as a defensible outdoor room. Two new porches, each straddling the main building, provide shade on the south side and an intimate “frame” for the outdoor spa on the north. Glass curtain walls infill each gable, providing uninterrupted views out and through the structure. The west-facing porch provides spectacular views of the nearby high peaks across a pastoral meadow.
