In this project we updated traditional styling by cleaning up the lines and adding modern features. We opted for subtle details on the island legs instead of gaudy traditional legs. The glass backsplash is a ribbed pattern and painted on the back - the result is nice crisp lines. When working with large spaces like this one, we like to mix wood cabinetry with painted because one color or material becomes overwhelming. In this case we mixed walnut with an off white lacquer lightly glazed for texture. The countertops on the buffet and desk are walnut - fabricated in our shop. The butcher block island top is a combination of bubinga and walnut which we also fabricated in our shop.
