MAKING A SOLID WOOD COUNTERTOP

Here are photos of the manufacturing of two solid wood counter tops. The first four photos depict the manufacturing of a walnut top measuring 48" x 84" with a 3/8" roman o-gee outside edge profile, the remaining photos of a mahogany top starting with the selecting of the wood, to the glue up to the final finishing stage. The second set of photos is a 2" thick mahogany island top which measure 53" x 69 1/8" and has a 1/2" roman o-gee outside edge profile.

These are the boards selected to go into the top. They have not yet been cut to size or straightened. This is how they come off the delivery truck. glenn pafford

We lay out the cut lumber prior to gluing up. The boards are assembled in the best possible order to ensure a flat top as well as uniform look. glenn pafford

The top is glued together using premium wood glues and clamps. glenn pafford

After coming out of the clamps the top is sized, shaped, finish sanded and a decorative edge routed. glenn pafford
