In collaboration with Jensen Architects, Nicole Hollis and the client, Terra Ferma Landscapes mindfully wove together the bold architecture of the home with the serene and natural Marin County setting. The tiered and sloped entry sequence of native grasses and locally sourced stone walls sets the rustic tone of the garden. A monument stone from the church where the homeowners were married in England is symbolically placed within the stone wall, creating a strong sense of place and history for the clients. Meandering through the ridge top vista, a natural path leads through a field of Thyme and Muhlenbergia to a stone and decomposed granite outdoor lounging area. Plantings and stone work surrounding the various spaces provide a serene balance and link to the site’s natural and tranquil setting. Our firm, along with the entire team, craftfully weaved a once-neglected ridgetop into a thriving and appropriate natural ecosystem, able to be enjoyed by the owners, as well as the local deer and wildlife. With Mount Tamalpais and rustic Marin County providing a backdrop, the landscape creates a beautiful composition of modern design and the natural environment.
