The homeowner’s vision for this extensive whole house remodel was to transform the old home’s dated and inefficient layout into a spacious contemporary showcase. The original home, formerly owned by a high ranking government official, is sited on the edge of a steep wooded valley in a quiet neighborhood in downtown Washington DC. The understated front façade provides the home’s entrance to the top level. The lot drops precipitously to the rear, facing the valley with a series of living levels and terraces.

The entire interior and exterior were to be given a new lifespan with quality materials and craftsmanship. Living areas were expanded with a three story addition that connects on all three levels and perfectly complements the existing architectural vernacular. A seamless integration of new and existing finishes was critical to the success of the project.
