Maybeck House

Designed by Bernard Maybeck in 1899, the residence features a distinctive, sunbonnet-like gambrel roof cantilevered over the main entry. The house was subject to several modifications over the past century, with notable features lost or modified over time, but Maybeck’s original design intent remained intact. BCV's renovation restored the original character of the house while updating the home programmatically for a family of four. Three original surviving photographs, archived at the UC Berkeley Bancroft Library, guided the restoration to the house’s exterior.

Landscaping was by Frederika Moller Landscape Architecture.
