Miami

The subtle and minimal architectural envelope of white walls and limestone floors became the perfect backdrop for our client’s modern art collection, and unconventional mixture of furniture in this Art Deco apartment house on Collins Avenue in Miami. Prominently placed in the foyer is a large red sculpture by Verner Panton, the actual artist’s prototype, setting the eccentric quality of the collection of furniture and artwork. Modern custom design furniture by D’Aquino Monaco and classical pieces are irreverently mixed. The crystal dining table floats and disappears reflecting the ever-changing light. Plaster walls are softened by curtains fabricated out of parachute cloth, with down lighting softening the perimeter of all rooms. Structural columns and beams were exposed, plastered, and in some cases gold leafed within this neutral setting. Artful triangular cut outs expose structural beams in the ceiling and become overhead lighting fixtures as well, as is visible above the dining table. While the main living area is an open floor plan, the master and guest bedroom are secluded from the rest of the apartment. An oversized plaster and gold leaf headboard designed by D’Aquino Monaco serpentines through the bedroom somewhat reminiscent of a Dali painting, our homage to the exuberance of old Miami Beach.
