Mid Century to Modern Kitchen

Beautiful Contemporary update to an original kitchen from the 1950's to 1960's era. The owners enjoy mid-century modern design, but they were looking for an update to their dated kitchen that would allow for all of the modern conveniences without losing the character of their home. In keeping with that our design reflects the era, while adding decidedly modern conveniences and a contemporary and more welcoming feel to the space. The end result is a truly spectacular transformation from an aging and awkward layout to an open and inviting space with crisp lines and all the modern conveniences of today's kitchens. The remodeling included updates and new flooring in the Sun Room area beyond the kitchen. Larger openings to both the Sun Room, and the Foyer at the opposite end, improve flow and draw visitors in to the new space.

Bye, Bye Beam! A new beam was installed flush with the floor framing above. Beyond, the two openings (a former door and window to a previously replaced porch are now combined in to one larger opening to the sun room beyond. New flooring ties both spaces together.

The built-in bookcase took advantage of a remnant of the closet which needed to remain to house an existing low voltage sub-panel, which still powers about half the house. The new space makes a great area to store the owner's cookbook collection.

Kitchen Entrance. A Closet was removed, and a portion of the space converted to a built in bookcase. The entrance has gone from a closed off door less than 3' wide to a large 6' opening which invites people in from the foyer area. The range hood serves as a focal point as you enter the space.

Microwave and Ovens. Beautiful Quartz countertops and porcelain tile backsplash in a herring bone pattern are continued here. Again, just a touch of red in the grout ties the design together. Tall doors beyond hide a walk-in pantry.

Walk in Pantry. This is a small and unexpected moment, adding a little flair and surprise to the design. There was an existing space that was built out with the change to the sun room entrance. Tall doors are doubled up in line with the appliance cabinets to hide the space beyond.

Looking back from the sun room. The wood flooring is a blend of red oak in clear rift and quarter sawn and natural plain sawn. The character of the grain provides great dynamic movement and was carefully selected and placed to match a similar floor in the dining room.
