The family wanted an updated kitchen which is functional and attractive. We studied how the family utilized the current space and configuration to determine what worked and did not work. An addition was considered and was quickly determined to not be necessary if the space could be re-designed in an open concept. Reframing a bearing wall and stealing 18” out of the oversized garage allowed for a wider island. Several inspiration points were worked into the new design including a larger 48” built-in Sub-Zero refrigerator and 48” range and hood, removing the pantry from the main part of the room, and creating two islands to allow the greatest flexibility for family or social functions. Wellborn Cabinetry, which J. Francis Company is now a distributor of, allowed the project schedule to shrink by 3-4 weeks. The smallest details resolved; the kitchen is now connected to the family room, is family user friendly, and stunning in its finishes.
