This kitchen hadn't been updated since the 1950s. Check out the original cabinets in the before photo! To get a more open spacious feel, and better workflow, we blasted out the partition walls, and extended the cabinets into the dining room with a pantry/buffet area. To achieve the midcentury modern look, we combined IKEA's Abstrakt high-gloss white cabinets with custom mahogany doors and panels made to fit the IKEA cabinets. Adding custom doors to IKEA cabinets is a great way to get a custom, high-end look for a fraction of the cost. This is becoming a very popular trend now, and there are a few companies out there (including us!), who specialize in making doors specifically for IKEA cabinets.
