The homeowner desired a two car garage and they had an alley. Backyard space was limited and there were power lines to contend with. A garage perpendicular to the alley would have taken up the entire backyard and power lines would have restricted access. By angling the garage slightly and opening toward the street with a driveway, part of the alley access was utilized, no power lines were moved and maximum yard space was maintained.
