This space has great original structure but was initially very dark and outdated. It is very large with over 20 foot ceilings and while this is a great feature, it also needed the right space plan to make it inviting and comfortable for entertaining. We updated the walls with a neutral paint that would flow with the wood floors and also give it a fresh, brightened feel. We hung an extra large orb style chandelier from the 20 foot ceilings to the lighten the room and create an interesting focal point when walking in through the front door. Because we decided not to incorporate an actual dining table into the room but rather a tall glass sideboard for decorative accents and alcohol/glassware, the orb shaped chandelier was the best fit for overhead lighting (versus your standard chandelier). We brightened the room with bold colors, abstract wall art, patterned accent chairs, and grounded the space with a soft rug to give it a modern yet cozy feel.
