Modern Kitchen with Dramatic Flair

The clients were ready for a complete overall of their outdated kitchen with the exception of the existing window box, which would remain unchanged. A wall was partially removed between the kitchen and dining room which provided a more open concept but a bigger challenge for storage.

In order to meet the storage challenge, the footprint of the kitchen was expanded toward the family room by eliminating the need for a dining table and instead combining it with a new bar height peninsula. Tall storage cabinets were installed in three strategic areas as well as a convenient oven peninsula taller than standard height. Increasing the footprint also allowed for a large center island. A tall aluminum tambour door stores and hides many of the everyday appliances used by the client and adds a cool industrial element to the space.

Black laminate with a tight wood grain embossed pattern was selected for the cabinets. This is contrasted with white quartz countertops and white glass backsplash tile. The island and peninsula countertops are set apart with an exotic Zebra Ebony granite, which compliments the kitchen as well as the large collection of Zebra sculpture and artwork throughout the home. Aluminum framed frosted glass doors compliment the black wall cabinets, adding depth and keep them from overwhelming the space.
