Modern on South Cove
This project had many fun challenges - the site is narrow, sloping, and when we arrived it was bare compacted clay soil with several erosion and privacy challenges. The style of the house is very modern, and the clients wanted an unobstructed view of the lake, as well as useful spaces for playful grandchildren and entertaining guests. The solution involved building three level terraces retained with stone sitting walls. The horizontal bands give the illusion that the space is more expansive than it is and the terraces absorb stormwater runoff before it hits the lake. We also designed and constructed a biofiltration planting along the east property line - effectively slowing and filtering runoff there as well. We enjoy visiting this garden to watch it fill out, mature and evolve.
