Modernized Midcentury Kitchen Remodel
This kitchen was originally a galley kitchen which was typical for this c.1960 midcentury modern home.
The design team opened up the walls of the galley kitchen so that it became an open floor plan including the dining area. Another goal of the design was to honor the home’s midcentury roots and walnut grain European style cabinets and streamlined hardware were selected. A 60” workstation sink was specified to effectively allow the owners to entertain and meal prep comfortably. A large island was also specified to include an induction cooktop and a flush ceiling mounted hood by Eleca. Cambria’s new Clovelly quartz was specified for the countertops and backsplash because of the dramatic movement of the pattern and the warm tones to compliment the walnut grained cabinets. A monolithic wall of cabinets was designed along the dining area to provide plenty of pantry and dish storage.
Grasscloth wallcoverings by Philip Jeffries were selected as a nod to midcentury as well as to provide additional texture and warmth to the walls of the new open space.
Finally, the Eero Saairen dining chairs were selected to complete the mid century design aesthetic.
