Montauk ocean bluffs

This is a contemporary house located right on the edge of the Montauk bluffs with a fabulous view over the Atlantic Ocean. The colors were taken from the driftwood, sand and stones on the beach. Using a calm palette of grays, whites, and natural wood with accents of black and silver let the ocean views take center stage.

A pair of modern sofas in an indoor/outdoor white linen frame the natural fieldstone fireplace wall and flank an antiqued reclaimed teak coffee table. A few silver accents and the tall floor lamp keep the design uncluttered.

The double-height entry and great room were anchored with a large open antiqued silver orb light fixture. The floors, stair rail and treads, and steps into the sunken great room were all bleached and stained driftwood gray.

Using a console of bleached and stained gray wood and recycled kirei reed as a bar in the great room with a nautical-theme polished silver anchor chain mirror echoed the natural materials found in the surroundings. A large oil painting by a local Plein Air artist, Gail Kern, of Sagaponack Pond in Bridgehampton in shades of grays and steel blues became a focal point of the great room.

The driftwood gray floors and the Simply White walls allow the ocean views to shine through the double-height view from the great room. A center table in polished concrete sits directly under the orb chandelier giving a sense of the height of the open space.

The Design Within Reach expandable dining table in a white oak provides a simple background for the stained rattan chairs. The Perennials fabric on the chair seats provide a bit of fun raspberry color.

Using a large custom slab of glass allows the open kitchen to be used for serving at parties. The kitchen has custom designed, painted Shaker-style cabinets and watery blue tiles on the backsplash.

Granny Smith apple green walls pick up the green background on handpainted Quadrille linen throw pillows. The neutral carpet, leather trunk, and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams sectional in a flax-color keep the den from becoming too lively.

Red high gloss bed frame with red and white quilt make the guest bedroom fun. The pale blue walls and bleached gray floors keep the accent color from overwhelming the room.
