This remodel of this 1970’s former architect’s house, which appears to have been based on the New York Five’s fascination with the rotated cube, was a challenge due to the strong architectural language of the design. The desire was to update the interior and remove the strange, awkward concepts (such as a two-story bathroom, with sauna accessed via a ladder), but not lose the architectural sensibility of the design. Working with the owner, who was also very concerned about accessibility, we created a proper master bedroom suite with new updated full bath as well as redesigned the kitchen with new laundry area, taking over a former, unfinished storage room. New finishes were installed throughout using classic modern materials, such as stainless steel, cherry, terrazzo and glass in homage to the modernist roots of the building.
