The entire front yard of concrete and lawn was removed for a low water planting with paver driveway, entry and patio with a flagstone path from the street paring area.
New Front Yard
Low water plants replaced a thirsty lawn with a new path from the street in flagstone to a flagstone patio and entry. A new paver driveway replaced concrete.

Large slabs of Flagstone lead to the entry from the street. Dymondia will fill in the gaps to be 'green joints'. Hummingbird Sage will grow to fill out the street parking strip plantings.

The plantings are planned to fill out to mature size. Phormiums offer color in the leaves year round. The Stachys byzantine Lamb's Ear are a soft touch of silver that stays low. The Agaves will fill out to be small sculpture in the garden.

Dymondia lines the stone path with Salvia leucantha at the house wall to add color and texture.

Flagstone path with mortared joints moves from the driveway to the entry and forms a small sitting area in front of the existing Japanese Maple.

Along the large slab path from the sidewalk are accent boulders and many plants to soften the space such as English Lavender, Dymondia ground cover, and Achillea Paprika Red Yarrow.

Fox Tail Agave will row to 4-5' and will add a sculptural effect in a garden. Lantana provides color from frost stop to frost start. It looks a little tired in winter but bounces back well. The Blue Hibiscus isn't a hibiscus at all but the flower mimics one well and does well in the winter here...

A small stone patio in front offers a place to sit and commune with the neighbors. A decomposed granite path allows access to the side gate.

The new plants and trees are still very young and need time to fill out. The blue hibiscus blooms heavily in spring and is a large shrub that will provide a nice side screen at the edge of the property. The Phlomis with its yellow bloom in summer will add teh next layer.
