New York Loft

This New York City coop apartment is in the landmark district of SoHo. The coop was one of the first in the district to restore its hundred year old cast iron facade. Leila Gilchrist's extensive research determined the appropriate methods for restoration. These included methods for testing structural integrity, cleaning, painting, and waterproofing. For the apartment design, new construction was minimized to maintain the open feeling of the original eleven foot high space. The most signifiant architectural features of the apartment are eleven huge double hung windows. The windows march along two sides of the loft to meet at a curved glass corner window.
