Prior to our start, the Client hired a lawn company to mow the 4 acres that weren't horse pasture. Each week, pasture grasses, which "blade out" at about 6-8", were mowed to 3" All that remained were the stalks. This left the property scalped, brown and heading south.

Convincing the Owner that Trex wasn't an option, we designed and built a new flagstone patio. A boulder from the hillside was "planted" as a canvas, counterpoint to life and nature. Evocative native plantings, mixed with adapted ornamentals, bring the foothills right into one's sensory experience.

The changes through the seasons are evident against the boulder "canvas." Rabbitbrush gone to silvery seed, sage in full fragrant flower, the play of light against stone- Colorado, captured in 12 square feet.
