Noe Valley Apartment
When after two years at a retirement home a hip grandmother realized that she was too young at heart for senior living she moved into the four-unit Edwardian her son owns in Noe Valley.
The one-bedroom apartment had been rented for 17 years and was in dire need of upgrading. That created another collaboration for Claudia and the client’s son, designing "a little palace", as the client warmly describes it. Claudia designed a brand new bathroom and kitchen, complete with a dining nook utilizing an odd corner. The dark bathroom was brightened up with white marble and rich apricot on the walls, and the shower was made more accessible. The client is an incredible hostess, and so the kitchen was made more functional and received additional storage, including much appreciated wine cubbies. Now the client and her son often throw parties together.
This spirited grandmother is a perfect example of living life in comfort, and with elegance and passion, no matter what age. It was a pleasure creating the right stage set for her. This project has been featured in the San Francisco Chronicle http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/03/29/HOCE16EGFB.DTL
