North Oaks - Mid-Century Modern Remodel

Originally incorporated in the mid 1950s, North Oaks was started by the
grandchildren of railroad magnate and enthusiastic conservationist, James J. Hill. North Oaks began as one of Hill’s model experimental farms. Designed as a private corporation, the city’s mission was to build a residential community with respect for the natural environment.

Today, North Oaks remains a model residential city. The private roads wind around Pleasant Lake, meandering through woods, meadows, and a manicured golf course. Residences here showcase the best in architecture from the 1950s through today, and are accented by a handful of original farm buildings.

Now, as these beautiful homes begin to show their age, Bob Michels Construction is bringing Minnesota’s Green Path to the rescue. "Minnesota Green Path is an organization focused on educating, encouraging, and certifying the construction and renovation of homes in an efficient and durable fashion." Michels asks, “Why would you tear down a home with great bones and incredible finishes.” “This 1956 post-and-beam home had been advertised as a tear down, but look at the incredible wood in the ceiling and gorgeous staircase.”
