A century-old house in need of all new mechanicals still shone with so many original characteristics worth saving: hardwood floors, stained glass windows, pocket doors, and a staircase to die for. We drew up a new floor plan to make this a 4-bedroom, 2.5 bath house with modern comforts. The house was listed for sale in February 2018--and quickly sold!

The house needed all new mechanicals, but the hardwood floors, stained glass windows and paned doors would stay! The next photo shows the same room a few weeks later, after we had painted the walls.

Not only are these gorgeous wood doors the kind with 6 panels...they are pocket doors! There's a set from the entryway to the living room and another set between the living room and dining room.

I can't say it enough--six-panel doors are not common but SO elegant. Too bad someone had painted the doorknob hardware!

Look like another job for the crock pot. We will cook hardware on a low temp overnight to remove the paint--which means no caustic chemicals or scraping to damage the original metal.
