Oceanfront Contemporary

With the endless ocean horizon to the east and the vast ecological preserve to the west, this beachy contemporary was designed to incorporate the best views of the surrounding landscape. Every major room was carefully positioned to capture the brilliance of sunlight, while affording shaded relief during peak hours of the day.

Contemporary modern architecture allows the freedom to stack building cubes atop each other in a seemingly random fashion. However the designer very deliberately cantilevered upper rooms over lower rooms to create covered shade porches below. In addition, selected room cubes were wrapped in a rich, brown synthetic siding to accent the bright white stucco veneer of the home.

The smart, clean lines of the exterior set the stage for the sleek, yet simple, contemporary finishes of the interior. The two-story great room, with windows to the sea and sky, incorporates the color palette of its seaside environment in muted tones of ocean blue, taupe, sand and driftwood. Dark brown beams accent the brilliant white ceiling and appear to pass directly through the wall to the outer porch.

The contrast of dark and shiny accents against the backdrop of soft white plastered walls, adds a refined elegance to the modern design of the kitchen and baths. Thin cable-supported beams of light, emitting from geometric pendants and hanging fixtures, add lightness and simplicity of the décor. The dark wood tones of the floating stair treads are complemented by the industrial look of the thin cable rails.

Situated on the upper level is the owner’s suite with unobstructed views of the sand and surf. The clear glass walls of the walk-in shower and the placement of a free-standing soaking tub against a wall of windows affords a magnificent view of paradise from this one of a kind dream home.
