This garden includes features such as new terrace and deck spaces surrounded by walls which include a water feature, new pool decking, plantings and lighting. The goals of the project were to create a larger more useful raised living space as an extension of the house, situate the hot tub in a more appropriate location, and simplify the lines of the pool while creating seating areas adjacent to the water while using plant materials to create interest and a sense of space.

For the dining portion of the terrace, Ipe decking was selected to reflect the wood flooring in the home in addition to have a softer, warmer feel than the surrounding stone. The change in flooring material and design of the walls creates a sense of rooms to the various areas of the terrace. Some of the granite used for the pool decking was integrated into the flagstone to create a simple stone pattern for interest as well as to provide a sense of transition between the home and pool.

Texture, color and fragrance provided by the plantings, complimented by the sound and movement of water, create a joy for the senses throughout the year. As the sun goes down, low voltage lighting transforms the garden into a new sense of place as the accented trees and walls take on a more sculptural quality.
