Princeton Farmhouse
This garden was designed to complement the home which was newly constructed using reclaimed barn timbers as well as to reflect the client’s desire for a simple yet productive garden. DGA was responsible for the site master plan which includes the layouts for the drive, parking court, walls, walks and terraces, plantings, vegetable garden and lighting as well as the construction and installation of all items listed above.
Materials were carefully selected and handpicked to reinforce the rustic qualities of the design. Hand split slabs of granite over 100 years old were used to create bands in the drive as well as the steps to the front door while reclaimed flagstone was used on the rear of the home. The drive into the property sets the tone as it passed through a grove of fruit trees which transitions into a meadow flanking the drive as it meanders toward the house, leaving the suburban world behind.
Use of native, deer resistant species trees, evergreens, and meadow plants blend with the surrounding landscape, blurring the line between new plantings and the native landscape. The orchard and berry garden as well as the herb and vegetable gardens further compliment the character of the property while being productive spaces for farm and food.
