Presidio Heights Remodel

Originally intended to be the client’s forever home, this stately San Francisco residence transitioned to a spec home when the homeowner accepted a position outside of the area. To create a residence that was at once special but universally appealing, we chose a neutral palette when designing the kitchen and bathrooms. Traditional details keep the new spaces in-line with the home’s classic architecture. This residence sold over the asking price with multiple offers.

Adjustable shelving in the butler's pantry allows for storage of all kinds. Whether the owners have taller, stouter, or deeper supplies, they can simply rearrange the shelving to create the room they need.

A walnut countertop and bar sink were added to facilitate a seamless transition from the kitchen to the pantry. The countertops and cabinetry in both rooms reflect and complement one another to create a cohesive aesthetic as you move from one to the other.

A smokebell light fixture adds a hint of shine to the space, contrasting well with the white of the exterior cabinetry and the deep brown walnut of the countertops and cabinet interiors.

Built to hold over 2,000 bottles of wine, the wine cellar exudes sophistication with its polished wooden shelves. Warm, rich wood tones were chosen to lend an elevated hand to the space.

In the wine cellar, a small rectangle at the base of the far rack serves as a charming display where the homeowners can showcase their favorite vintage, glasses, and a book alongside up to 2,000 bottles of wine.

All of the original staircase details were kept and were a source of inspiration for the rest of the home’s design. A jute carpet climbs along both staircases, providing a lasting and warm accent to the space and highlighting the stunning architecture.

The unique curves of the stairway are emphasized with the addition of mirrored wall pieces on the landing. These mirrors reflect the rounded detailing of the banister, creating a luxurious wave effect.

In the children’s bath, Ann Lowengart Interiors made sure to use a stain-resistant countertop. A sliding glass creates the illusion of a larger shower while dark marble countertops add a luxurious feel to the space. This bathroom also features fixtures in polished nickel from Restoration Hardware.

In the mudroom, two miniature storage lockers provide space for backpacks and accomodate up to four children. A top shelf was built above the two locker spaces, providing a space for sun hats and scarves.

Jute carpeted stairs lead upstairs from the mudroom. Not only is this material sturdy and great for homeowners with children, but its neutral tone looks beautiful against white paint and helps to highlight the architecture of the stairs.

The downstairs laundry room was carved out of the service area. Located next to the mudroom, it provides the necessary machinery for larger loads of laundry or extra towels, bedding, etc.

A chef’s sink in laundry room features a standard chef’s faucet. The power and agility of this faucet allow for heavy-duty cleaning and can be used to wash the homeowners' pet dog.

Smooth wood flooring pairs nicely with the raised texture of jute carpeting on the staircase. The carpet also helps to highlight the architecture of the stairway, showing off the unique banister and vertical height gained in this space.

Ornate detailing and pillars on the exterior of the house speak to traditional architecture. Maintaining the classic charm of the classic home while at the same time adding modern touches and some contemporary furnishings, Ann Lowengart Interiors struck the perfect balance between old and new.

Special care and attention was paid to each and every light fixture in this home. A Morris Lantern from Circa Lighting brings an industrial element into the mix with its structured, geometric shape.

On the other hand, glamour is introduced with a beaded gold globe light fixture by Serena & Lily. A series of thin gold circles come together to create this dynamic, elegant fixture.
